Barrios, Agustin (1885-1944)
Description:
Paganini, the guitarist from the jungles of Paraguay" was the nickname Barrios took for his first performance in Venezuela in 1930. He was known for his unique activities during the four years he was there, such as decorating his head with bird feathers, wearing traditional Paraguayan folk costumes, and calling himself Nitsuga Mangole (Nitsuga is Agustin spelled backwards) at the request of the show's promoter. Despite this, Barrios began composing around 1910, and his numerous works incorporating elements of folk music have become an important part of the guitarist's repertoire. In this album, you can hear a variety of works from his early masterpiece "Open the Door, My Homeland Girl" to a series of exercises written in his later years. Naxos Japan
