This is the first release of the "Sony Classical Masterpieces Collection 1000". This is a masterful performance by Leonard Bernstein in the 1970s, when he was about to enter a new period of maturity after resigning as music director of the New York Philharmonic. In addition to Holst's "The Planets" with its dynamism and crispness, it also includes "Barber," whose somber song approaches with unusual veracity, and Elgar's "Dignity" with its vivaciousness.
