Description:
This reissue album is a compilation of two previously released albums (ODE-874 and ODE-918). St. Henryk" is a man who is said to have come to Finland in the 12th century with the Crusader invasion and preached Christianity to the people. Legend has it that he was assassinated due to public outcry, but there is no clear record of his death. However, his greatness is praised even today. The other piece, "Pie Kanziones," is a collection of chants compiled in 16th century Finland." It has the original title "Chants for the Churches and Schools of the Bishops of the Olden Times" and contains a wide variety of songs. Almost half of the songs in the collection are folk songs from the Scandinavian peninsula or originated in other countries, and it is assumed that these were probably brought to Finland by those who toured other countries. Both are impressive for their simple harmonies and limpid singing. Naxos Japan
