Schubert (1797-1828)

Description:

Jansons Shakes 'Great'! Originally called "Great" to mean Schubert's "big," the Eighth Symphony is often used these days to mean "great. As the name suggests, the performance time is over 50 minutes, and the content is magnificent. It is a masterpiece of Schubert's later years, in which overflowing romanticism and rigorous classicism collide. (It used to be numbered as No. 9, but nowadays it is often referred to as No. 8, and this album by Jansons is also numbered as No. 8.) As usual, Jansons' performance is full of dynamism. The first movement consists of an introductory section that begins with a leisurely horn unison and a main section played at a light tempo, but Jansons always keeps the tempo brisk and steady, while highlighting the presence of each instrumental part as usual to create a three-dimensional music. In the second movement, the oboe playing the main melody is first of all very skillful, and the crisp orchestral sound is second to none. The crisp orchestral sound and the beautiful melody, Schubert's signature, are also worth listening to. You will be able to enjoy the high ensemble ability of the orchestra. The powerful third movement. In the main part, the melody with a strong dance-like character is persistently repeated, and in the beautiful middle part, Jansons faithfully adheres to the repetition markings in the presentation and middle part, impressing us with the powerful melody. The lengthy fourth movement is where Jansons shows his skill.Come and see how Jansons connects the dizzying modulations and dramatic developments. The performance ends with thunderous applause and cheers. Naxos Japan
