Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
Description:
Martin Brabbins' second RVW! symphony project, "Symphony of the Seas," was the Permanent Conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra from 2003 to 2016, visited Japan twice in May and September 2017, and has had the great honor of being the Music Director of the English National Opera since 2016! Martin Brabbins. After making a splash with his 1920 version of the London Symphony (CDA 68190), Brabbins' latest Vaughan Williams 2018 release is RVW's first symphony, the Sea Symphony (Symphony No. 1)! Using a poem by American poet Walt Whitman, the Brabbins' sensitive expressiveness and the dense orchestra of the BBC Symphony Orchestra portray the epic "Sea Symphony," written for soprano and baritone solo voices, chorus, and orchestra. The coupling includes "Darest thou now, O soul" (1925), an unknown work for chorus and strings with text taken from Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" as in the "Sea Symphony". Tokyo M-Plus
