Here we have an exceptionally well preserved WW1 trench watch.

The classic white enamel dial provides a stark contrast to the bold black numerals, ensuring clear and easy readability even in the most challenging conditions. Designed to accompany soldiers in the trenches, this watch boasts a compact size that sits comfortably on the wrist while maintaining its robustness.

Encased in solid silver we believe, but we have been unable to identify any hallmarks stating so. True to its heritage, this trench watch features authentic wire lugs.

The red “12” is one of the most iconic features of early trench watches, originating during WWI. Its purpose was practical: when soldiers transitioned from pocket watches to wristwatches, they needed to be able to instantly orient the dial — especially in low light or high-stress conditions.

Pocket watches were usually read upright in the hand, but wristwatches required a new visual cue to ensure the wearer didn’t misread the time at a glance. The bold red “12” provided that reference point.

The overall condition of this piece is excellent, only minor surface signs of previous wear are present and the dial is sublime. The watch is completely functional and running well.
