This is a classic Great Britain 1d Red (Penny Red), issued in 1841 as the successor to the famous Penny Black. The design features a left-facing profile of Queen Victoria, engraved by Charles Heath and George Rushall, based on William Wyon’s medallic portrait. Each stamp carries unique corner check letters, with this example showing M (lower left) – J (upper right). Postally used, it bears a bold cancellation typical of mid-Victorian correspondence. The Penny Red is highly prized by philatelists for its plate varieties and historical significance as one of the world’s earliest postage stamps.
