故事从小梅的妈妈进医院后开始。由于医药费昂贵，小梅和爸爸就从公寓搬进旧三房式组屋。
自从妈妈生病后，小梅突然发现爸爸很伟大，除了要照顾她，也得努力赚钱养家。为了减轻爸爸的负担，小梅学会了照顾自己。
有一天，小梅救了一只小猫，爱吃的它越吃越胖，甚至变得比她爸爸还要高，所以小梅为它取个外号，叫作“肥猫”。为了不要吓到小梅的爸爸，当爸爸在家时，肥猫就化身为一张大地毯。
肥猫带给小梅很多欢乐，也把她带入时光隧道里，让她回到父母从恋爱到结婚的时光，体验上一代的美好回忆，也让小梅看到老一辈很怀念的新加坡旧景物。
后来，小梅的妈妈出院了。一家团圆之后，小梅重新展开笑脸，肥猫又变回可爱的小猫，成为小梅家的一分子。
