“Funkhaus Chess” depicts a scene of alluring intrigue. Two people are involved in a concentrated game of chess in the late night hours of the day. One player seems to be dressed in a vibrate scarf with a mask sitting atop his head. The other player holds a pipe-like object in his hand which lightly grazes his mouth. We wonder perhaps where they are and what are the circumstances that brought them there that night.

Made with colored pencil, crayon, and watercolor on laid Italian paper, Francesca renders this quietly intimate chessmatch with care and delicacy.
