Wilms / G.a.P. Ensemble
Description:
Wilms [1772-1847], known as the composer of the Dutch National Anthem (1817-1932), was an instrumentalist (piano, flute, organ) and composer born near Solingen, Germany. He lived in Holland from the age of 19 until his death at the age of 75, and was a contemporary of Beethoven as a composer, since he became a church organist in 1823 due to the shock of a series of deaths in his family. The performance is by the G.A.P. Ensemble, a chamber music group led by keyboardist and conductor Luca Quintavalle, who has extensive experience in period instrument performance, and was recorded in Cologne in October 2021. This is the first recording with period instruments, and the rhythmic, tight, and lucid performance shows the true nature of Wilms' music. The CDs on offer include the Piano Quartets No. 1 and No. 2 and the Piano Trio No. 1. The Piano Quartet No. 2 is a projection of his career as a pianist who was also renowned for his piano concerto playing and improvisation, and the piano concerto has romantic elements with piano and string trio. The Piano Trio No. 1, on the other hand, is more classical in style, allowing us to trace the transition of Wilms' career on this single disc. Piano Quartet No. 1, Op. 22, composed in 1812. It is a lot of fun. 1st movement:Allegro. The music has some Haydn and Mozart style. Second movement: Adagio. It has a generous flavor in the style of Beethoven. 3rd movement: Scherzando. Romantic style music. 4th movement: Allegretto. Polonaise style with graceful finish. Piano Quartet No. 2, Op. 301812. Piano concerto for piano and string trio. 1st movement: Romantic lyrical adagio introduction, followed by sonata-style allegro with rich atmosphere. Second movement: Larghetto. The second movement: Larghetto. Third movement: Allegro. The third movement: Allegro, which also returns to the classical idiom. Piano Trio No. 1, Op. 41799. A classical style work. 1st movement: Allegro. Sonata form with repetition of the presenting part. Piano is brilliant. The second movement: Un poco adagio. 3 voices dialogue is impressive, romantic style. Third movement: Rondo Allegro. Pleasant music with lively and pleasant musical ideas. (1/3)
