This "The Oath of Jephthah" is the first opera composed by Maia Behr. Based on an episode in the Book of Judges concerning Jephthah, the leader of the Israelites who refused to be enslaved by the Ammonites in Old Testament times, and his daughter Sulima, it was first performed in Munich on December 23, 1812, with some success. The work contains a highly sophisticated light motif. The work features a sophisticated use of light motifs and exquisite psychological portrayal of the characters, and the arias by the singers, the ensemble, and the magnificent chorus are all worth hearing. The performance features Sonke Tams Freier, a bass-baritone born in Hamburg in 1989, as Jephtha, and Andrea Tudarc, a soprano active in Berlin, as Sulima, with Dario Salvi, whose recordings of overtures and stage music from 19th century operas by Aubert, Maia Behr and others are highly regarded, The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra will provide the backing.
