Special instructions for GMC EV
To successfully install your Smartworld link2phone system on the GMC EV, you must first address the vehicle's locked ecosystem. General Motors’ newer electric vehicles utilize an integrated Google Built-in ecosystem that aggressively blocks third-party Android APK installations. When you try to click or install the file, the operating system's security features instantly flag it as an unauthorized package, halting the load and removing the file to "protect" the system.
To bypass this restriction and complete your setup, follow these step-by-step instructions.
Phase 1: Unlocking Developer Options & File Access
Because the GMC system blocks external USB file access by default, you have to activate the underlying Android Developer menu to allow file reading and sideloading.
1. Turn on the Vehicle: Sit in the truck with the infotainment screen fully powered on.
2. Navigate to Settings: On your 13.4-inch display, tap the Settings icon.
3. Go to System Details: Scroll down and select System (or About Device / About Car depending on your exact firmware version).
4. Locate the Build Number: Scroll until you see Build Number or Software Version.
5. Perform the "7-Tap" Unlock: Tap the words Build Number rapidly 7 times in succession.
Note: A countdown will appear on the bottom of the screen saying, "You are now X steps away from being a developer." Keep tapping until it says, "Developer Mode Enabled."
6. Access Developer Options: Go back one screen to the main System menu. A new option titled Developer Options will now be visible. Tap it.
7. Enable Key Permissions: Inside the Developer Options menu, scroll down to find and toggle ON the following settings:
USB Debugging (This forces the vehicle to stop blocking raw USB data).
Allow Unknown Sources / Sideloading Options (This stops the system from instantly deleting unauthorized APK files).
