Since the dawn of world music, the Maghreb, located on the North African side of the Mediterranean coast, has always been a source of exciting music. From the Maghreb comes one of the most exciting music creators of the 2010s, Amar 808! Amahl 808 is the pseudonym project of synth player/producer Sofian Ben Youssef, and the "808" in its name comes from the TR-808 rhythm machine (also known as Yaoya) created by Japanese musical instrument maker Roland Corporation. Here, they create near-future Maghreb music that combines electronic sounds with various traditional music from the Maghreb region, such as Gnawa in Morocco, Rai in Algeria, and Targu in Tunisia. This album is an excellent proof that Mabrev music is a highly flexible music that has been shaped and developed into various musical styles by external stimuli!
