Hideyasu Terakawa Quartet

Description:

This is the world's first reissue from BBE Music of the extremely rare private pressing of the Hidetomo Terakawa Quartet featuring Hiroshi Fujii, originally issued in 1978 in an edition of only 100 copies. The quartet, led by saxophonist Hideho Terakawa and featuring bassist Tetsuo Miura and drummer Akihiro "Thunder" Nakaya, recorded and released a live performance at DIG in Masuda City, Shimane Prefecture on the first day of a seven-day tour of jazz spots in the San-in and Shikoku regions in October 1978. This is a live recording. The featured guest on this three-piece tour was vibraphonist Hiroshi Fujii. According to Fujii, "This special label (Red Horison) only released this one record, which was sold only at a few local record stores when we released it at the time, and only at venues when we played somewhere." The current whereabouts of leader and saxophonist Hideyasu Terakawa are unknown, but we are very happy to have this opportunity to introduce this album to a new audience.Unlike previous albums in the J Jazz Masterclass Series, this album does not feature any original compositions, but it is a wonderful interpretation of works by Wayne Shorter ("Black Nile" from "J Jazz Vol. 3"), Frank Foster ("Simone"), Milt Jackson and Jimmy Heath ("Rerev"), and other leading American jazz composers.
