Lou Reed
Description:
The first installment of the Lou Reed Archive Series is now available at !!!! To listen to the tapes of these early demos, recorded on May 11, 1965 and sealed until now, is to hear ... traces of something that is hardly associated with the Velvet Underground. Blues and folk, earthiness, tradition, uncertainty, and hesitation ... this is already the established spirit of Lou Reed, and a revelation of the future."- Will Hodgkinson, MOJO Magazine LIGHT IN THE ATTIC RECORDS with LAURIE ANDERSON in collaboration with LOU REED ARCHIVE SERIES, the first installment of the LOU REED ARCHIVE SERIES. The album will be released as a celebration of the late Lou Reed's 80th birthday. This collection of previously unreleased songs was recorded on tape by the young Lou Reed with the help of his future bandmate John Cale, and mailed to him as a "poor man's copyright," which has remained unopened for nearly 50 years. Many of the sounds that are at the core of 20th century American popular music are included, and an examination of these songs, rooted in the folk song tradition, is intended to reveal the continuing influence of Lou Reed on the development of contemporary American music, from punk to art rock. A true time capsule, these recordings not only capture the early impulses that seeded the Velvet Underground, but also provide an intimate look at how the power of words is sublimated into sound. The album, which also features future bandmate John Cale, is a complete collection of the earliest Velvet Underground recordings, including "Heroin," "I'm Waiting for the Man," and "Pale Blue Eyes. Also included are several previously unreleased tracks that provide further insight into the creative process and early influences.Produced by Laurie Anderson, Don Fleming, Jason Stern, Hal Willner, and Matt Sullivan, the album features newly remastered sound from the original tapes by Grammy-nominated engineer John Baldwin The album is produced by Matt Sullivan. Also included are liner notes by journalist and author Grayle Marcus and detailed archival notes by Don Fleming and Jason Stern, who maintain the Lou Reed Archive.
