Description:
A live recording of a summer evening concert by pianist Sorijan and the German String Philharmonic conducted by Wolfgang Hentrich at the "Golden Hall" of the Musikverein in Vienna on August 1, 2021. Opening with Grieg's "From the Time of Holbehr," the concert featured a fascinating program that included an orthodox work, Chopin's "Piano Concerto No. 2" with Solyan on piano, and a new work, Roland Baumgartner's "Variations on a Gondola Song. Baumgartner's "Gondola Song Variations," based on Mendelssohn's mute song of the same name, also featured Sorjan as soloist. Barber's "Adagio for Strings" followed, and the program ended with "Orava," a minimalist-style music based on a folk song from his native Podhale, at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, by Kirar, a composer known for his film music. The rich sound of the strings can be fully appreciated. The encores include Strauss' "Pizzicato Polka" and Piazzolla's "Oblivion" by Strauss and the last movement of Vivaldi's "Summer". Naxos Japan
