Celebration! Bach Collegium Japan celebrates its 30th anniversary by finally re-recording the Matthew Passion in 2019! The daring experiment of using a bass organ with open principal principal produced by Marc Garnier for the bass continuo has come to fruition here. A memorable and much-talked-about recording with a full lineup of soloists! In 2020, the Bach Collegium Japan celebrates its 30th anniversary. To commemorate this, we have re-recorded the Matthew Passion in 2019! The Bach Collegium Japan, led by Masaaki Suzuki, wanted to take a bold challenge with this recording. The organ used for the bass continuo was one of them. Masaaki Suzuki had consulted with Marc Garnier, one of the best organ builders of our time, for several years before the re-recording, and asked him to build an organ for the bass continuo with open principal pipes.BCJ's principal conductor, Masato Suzuki, plays the organ on this recording! Benjamin Bruns is the evangelist and soloists Carolyn Sampson, Aki Matsui, Damien Guillon, Clint van der Linde, Ryo Sakurada, Zachary Wilder, Christian Imler, and Toru Kashi Lei are all featured in this recording of the Matthew Passion. This re-recording of the Matthew Passion, featuring a full lineup of soloists including Linde Sakurada, Ryo Sakurada, Zachary Wilder, Christian Imler, and Toru Kalei Le Lei, is a release that is sure to be a hit on the BCJ 30th anniversary!
