Description:
This is the fourth collection of an album commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams' birth in 2022. While the third collection featured Vaughan Williams' own compositions, this fourth collection features "Fantasy on a Theme by Thomas Tallis," which Mitropoulos, an avid supporter of Vaughan Williams' works, conducted the string section of the New York Philharmonic in 1942, and "Concerto for Two Pianos," which was performed in 1952. Concerto for 2 Pianos" performed by Mitropoulos in 1952. The enthusiastic atmosphere of the concert is a must-hear. The second half includes Symphony No. 8, which Barbirolli conducted with the Halle Orchestra in 1964. This piece was premiered by Barbirolli and the Halle Orchestra in 1956, and the performance is full of the richness that only Barbirolli, who knows the showpiece of the work, can provide. The reissue was carefully remastered by Rani Spahr, a leading British remastering engineer who has reissued many masterpieces in the past, to bring back a realistic sound with little noise. The booklet includes a commentary by Simon Heffer, a British researcher who wrote a biography of Vaughan Williams (English only). Naxos Japan
