Demantoid Garnet, a rare and highly prized variety of Andradite Garnet, is celebrated for its exceptional brilliance and vibrant green hues. Its name, derived from the German word "demant" meaning Diamond, alludes to its remarkable dispersion, or "fire," which exceeds that of Diamond. This gemstone's color, caused by trace amounts of chromium, ranges from yellowish-green to intense emerald-green. Notably, Demantoid Garnets, particularly those from Russia, may contain distinctive "horsetail" (fibrous, often wavy, usually golden) inclusions, which are considered a hallmark of their origin and can increase their value. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, this gem requires careful handling.
