Description:
Following the release of "Great American Sonatas" (SOMMCD0163), British pianist Williamson's second album for SOMM RECORDINGS is a collection of 20th century British piano works. The recorded works are extremely diverse in character, ranging from Dilius to Dickinson. From the opening piece, "Twelve Preludes" by Olwyn, there is a unique mixture of tonal, classical works and modern, avant-garde pieces. Dilius' "Margot the Redhead" is a one-act opera written in 1902 but not performed until 1983. Ravel's arrangement for piano is modern and beautiful, emphasizing delicate harmonies and color. Other unusual works have been selected for this album, which shows Williamson's solid aesthetic sense. Naxos Japan
