Description:
The French master François-Frédéric Guy recorded Chopin for the first time. Surprisingly, this is his first recording of Chopin. The recording was made using a 1905 Pleyel piano, which he praises as "the final result of Pleyel." The mysterious, misty sound produced by pressing the pedal longer as instructed by Chopin is quite appealing. Moreover, the flamboyant passages are more flamboyant, and the legato-filled "singing" of Chopin's music is also fascinating. The liner notes are also interesting, with Guy's recollections of lessons on Chopin's works with Lucienne Brock, his first teacher and a student of Michelangeli, as well as his memories of Dominique Merlet. ~This project consists of all the works I have long desired to record but never had the courage to do so. Months of lockdowns and curfews [during the spread of the new coronavirus] have hastened its realization. To tell the truth, this is the most "fearless" project in my discography. I risked everything with great joy! The acoustics of the Arsenal Hall in Messe, where the recordings were made, have a wonderful potential to bring out many different flavors in the music. The hall even reproduces an intimate sound that could not be more appropriate for Chopin's music. ~(Guy's words) King International
