"Georgina Hamerton, who has been living in Italy with her uncle for five years, comes back to her father's house in the Connecticut town of Mellbrook, the home of Nancy and Alma Prescott, the charming heroines of Nancy Of Paradise Cottage.  She discovers that she is very much like a fish out of water in her American home and environment.  At first she is shy and awkward with her cousins and their friends, and even with her father.  But bit by bit her character develops in the new surroundings, and she not only "finds herself", but wins a circle of unusually interesting friends."
