Description:
Andriy Boreyko showed off his dashing conducting skills in the final round of the recent Chopin Competition. Born in St. Petersburg but of Polish descent on his father's side, he has been the Music Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra since the 2019/20 season. This 2-CD album pays homage to a great tradition by featuring works by conductors=composers associated with the Warsaw Philharmonic, [CD1] presents works by Pawel Krecki and Maklakiewicz, who was conductor of the Warsaw Philharmonic from 1947-48. It is not widely known that Krecki was also a composer, but he left behind some fine orchestral works. Makrakiewicz's "Four Japanese Songs" is a unique work with a Polish text based on a poem by Yoshitada Umeda (1900-1961), who studied in Poland and introduced Japanese culture, with a Japanese-style melody. CD2 features arrangements of works by Sukrowaczewski, who is well known in Japan, and Grzegorz Fitelberg, who was active for many years as the founder and conductor of the Katowice Symphony Orchestra of the Polish National Radio. The orchestral mastery of the conductor, who knows how to make an orchestra sound, adds new charm to the works of Bruckner, Gesualdo, and Brahms. Naxos Japan
