Mivos Quartet - Steve Reich: String Quartets" is a new album by the "innovative and energetic" quartet that brings the music of contemporary composers to the world. The Mivos Quartet, which is active around the world, recently recorded a collection of string quartets by Steve Reich, a contemporary music composer known as a pioneer of minimal music. The Mivos Quartet, founded in 2008, is "America's most innovative and energetic new music ensemble" (Chicago Reader). The quartet is actively engaged in performing works by contemporary composers, bringing a wide variety of new music to audiences around the world. Steve Reich has been a longtime collaborator and enthusiastic supporter of the Mivos Quartet project, and this recording is the definitive version recommended by the composer himself; they are the first to record and release all three of Steve Reich's quartets on one album. The album includes "WTC 9/11," a piece about the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and other locations in the United States, and "Different Trains" and "Triple Quartet," works for string quartet and pre-recorded tape.
