Description:
Veteran alto saxophonist Bobby Watson's first-rate straight-ahead jazz work, written in the midst of a pandemic and with thoughts of his hometown of Kansas City in mind! A first-rate straight-ahead jazz work by veteran alto saxophonist Bobby Watson, who wrote about his hometown Kansas City in the midst of the pandemic, His melodic playing and compositional abilities made him a popular member of Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers from 1977-81. After leaving the Messengers, he played with his own band, "Bobby Watson & Horizon," as well as in various sessions, etc. His last album, "Keepin' It Real," was recorded in 2020 with a new group, "New Horizon," which featured all new members and performed first-rate straight-ahead jazz. The album is the first of its kind in the world. This album features the rhythm section of bassist Curtis Landy and drummer Victor Jones, who also played on the previous album, as well as popular trumpeter Jeremy Pelto and pianist Cyrus Chesnutt.Vocalist Carmen Lundy sings movingly and wonderfully on "Our Love Remains," co-written by Watson and his wife Pamela. Watson says, "Great melodies are as immortal as sculptures and paintings. This piece focuses on the instrument's ability to sing." Watson said. The long hours during the pandemic were the inspiration for this work. This is a remarkable work that shows Watson, already a seasoned veteran, in good health. A top-notch straight-ahead jazz work by altoist Bobby Watson!
