About the Photoshoot

Photographing Iceland from a helicopter is an experience that few can forget. As the vast wilderness unfolds below, you gain an extraordinary perspective of the land’s unparalleled diversity. The central Highlands, shaped by the dual forces of ice and fire, reveal natural wonders that defy imagination.

My goal for this shoot was ambitious: to capture a composition that showcases the unique and varied environments of this rugged region, all in a single frame. Achieving this required navigating the chopper to just the right height and angle, a task made even more challenging by the heavy cloud cover that dulled the landscape’s vibrant colors. But perseverance paid off. At the perfect moment, the skies parted, casting beams of light across the land, highlighting the dramatic contrasts of Iceland’s terrain. The result is an image where vivid mountains blend into snow-capped peaks and glaciers, moss-covered slopes give way to barren lava fields, and a black sand valley with winding rivers provides a stark contrast to the surrounding vibrance. This photograph captures the essence of Iceland from above, where light, shadow, and color dance together in a breathtaking display.

About the Landmannalaugar

This aerial photograph was taken over the Landmannalaugar region in the central Highlands of Iceland, an area renowned for its stunning and diverse landscapes. Landmannalaugar is a place where the power of nature is on full display—volcanic deserts meet lush oases, moss-covered mountains rise above black sand valleys, and glaciers crown the peaks year-round. The region is also famous for its vibrant rhyolite mountains, which are often streaked with colors from geothermal activity. The contrast between the lifeless volcanic plains and the vivid, living landscapes is stark and dramatic, making this one of Iceland’s most visually striking areas. Viewing this region from above offers an even more profound appreciation of its beauty and the forces that have shaped it.
