Description:
This is the third collection of albums commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams' birth in 2022. This release features clear-sounding reissues of four works that were performed by Vaughan Williams himself under his own baton. The first CD includes the London Symphony Orchestra's performance of "Symphony No. 2" at the 1946 Proms and the world premiere of "Symphony No. 5" by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1943. CD2 contains "Symphony No. 5" also performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1952, and "Dona Nobis Pacem" with the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus recorded in 1936. As with previous reissues in the series, this reissue is also being handled by Rani Spahr, one of the UK's leading remastering engineers. The booklet includes a commentary (in English only) by Simon Heffer, a British researcher who wrote a biography of Vaughan Williams, which sheds light on interesting and previously little-known topics such as the relationship between Vaughan Williams and his second wife, Ursula Wood.
