'It was an earlier Queen Elizabeth on the throne of England at the beginning of the sixteenth century.  London was a gay and thriving city.  The streets rang to the cries of the "pedlars," selling everything from cakes and dolls to swords and mousetraps.
Orlando Gibbons tells of the songs they sang as they went from house to house.  And today when you hear the bell on an ice-cream truck or hear a balloon man chanting about his wares, this is how it began - with "cryes in Londontown."'
