Description:
Count Almaviva, a young man who calls himself Lindoro. He is in love with a beautiful woman, Rosina, but is unable to express his feelings because of the guardedness of Bartolo, the doctor who serves as her guardian. So, he asks Figaro, the "Jack-of-all-trades" of the town, to act as an intermediary. However, Bartolo, who is after Rosina's fortune, plans to marry her and keep it all for himself. When Figaro learns of this, he sets out to foil Bartolo's plan... Rossini's masterpiece "The Barber of Seville". Annabelle Arden, who directed this production, is an actress at the Théâtre de Complicite and is currently very active as an opera director in 2017. This sophisticated production, which makes the most of Rossini's vivacious music, was also a big hit. The cast was superb: Rosina sung by de Nice, who is now a star of the Royal Opera House; Stayton, who played the role of Almaviva, a pure young man, with a wonderful performance; Bürger, who sang Figaro with a strong presence; and Corbelli's Bartolo, a villainous but lovable character, as well as Mazzola's sharp and lively conducting. Mazzola's sharp conducting and lively music make the whole production stand out. Naxos Japan
