Kapralova (1915-1940)

Description:

A disc featuring the orchestral works of Kaplerová, a female composer who died prematurely. Her father was a music school principal and her mother a singing teacher. Five years later, in 1935, she composed her first orchestral work, the youthful energy and vivid colors of the "Piano Concerto in D minor," which was her graduation work. Around the same time, she also orchestrated her own piano piece, "Suite," which was in effect her second orchestral work. She eventually studied at the Prague Conservatory under Wenceslaw Nowak and Václav Thárig, and in 1937 received a scholarship to study at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. He took classes with Charles Munch and Nadia Boulanger, and also received private lessons from Bohuslav Martineau, who was in Paris at the time. It was during this year that she completed her masterpiece, "Sinfonietta in Military Style," which was premiered by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under her own baton and received international acclaim. In April 1940, he married Izzy Mucha, the son of Alphonse Mucha, a novelist, journalist, and screenwriter, but within two months he became ill and died at the young age of 25. However, the more than 50 works he left behind in his short life have been highly acclaimed in the 21st century and are being performed more and more often. This album contains a wide variety of her works, including some for voice. Naxos Japan
