Description:
German pianist Alexander Ronkwig plays "Schubert, piano pieces from his last year. Among the works written in 1828, the year Schubert's life burned out, the three piano sonatas are particularly important: all three were written at once two months before his death, all are between 30 and 40 minutes long, and have a profound content, as if Schubert had anticipated his own death. The entire work is filled with an unusual amount of tension, but Ronkwig carefully captures Schubert's thoughts and plays all the pieces with empathy. 2017 recording.
