Brodsky String Quartet New Recording! 100th anniversary of Elgar's String Quartets!One of the UK's leading ensembles, the Brodsky String Quartet has performed over 3,000 concerts on the world's major stages and released over 60 recordings since its formation in 1972. Their first new recording in nearly two years since the complete Shostakovich string quartets (CHAN 10917), this collection features Elgar's String Quartets and Piano Quintet, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2018 since it was first composed in 1918. The three great chamber works, the String Quartet, the Piano Quintet, and the Violin Sonata, were composed intensively by Elgar during his stay in Brinkwells, Sussex, between 1918 and 1919, under two dark shadows: the horrors of World War I and his wife Alice's illness.Elgar's "String Quartet" was dedicated to the original Brodsky Quartet (1895-), which was formed by Adolf Brodsky. The modern Brodsky Quartet, named in honor of Adolph Brodsky, has continued to perform this important work as a major part of its repertoire since it was recorded on their debut album in 1984.
