Description:

Alessio Backes won first prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 1997 and the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2000. After these two competitions, Bax, who has been active internationally, but has also been making progress while keeping a close eye on himself, recorded his only album for Warner Classics. The album features Bax's solo piano playing, including transcriptions of Baroque themes, with Bach as the central axis, and piano versions by Busoni and Zgambati, who are indispensable to the history of Italian piano music, his home country. A tribute to "Baroque music". Includes commentary. (Recorded in May 2004)
