The unknown master pianist of 20th century Russia who defected to the UK. APR is proud to present a reissue of rare recordings by Lev Puishunov (1891-1959), a legendary Russian pianist who was active mainly in England in the first half of the 20th century, and whose legacy on Columbia, HMV, and Saga labels is now back! Born in Odessa in 1891, Puishnov studied piano at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Annette Esipov-Reshetitsky (Anna Esipova), a teacher of Simon Burrell and Maria Yudina. Later, with the outbreak of the Russian Revolution, he fled his homeland, passing through Persia and Paris before arriving in London, the place of his career. He was a famous pianist of the 20th century who lived through turbulent times. This APR release, produced and remastered by renowned engineer Mark Aubert-Sohn, is the first recording of the entire 78rpm recording by Puishnov.The reissue of the Chopin and Glazunov recordings made in 1958, the last year of his life, will also be a hot topic!
