'The early days are well filled out with personal and other stories, and as time goes on the matter becomes more factually autobiographical.  Mr McHugh was a soldier in the 1914-18 war, and saw service in Egypt and France.  in the latter part of the story the emphasis is naturally political, and it is obvious that Mr. McHugh took his function as a statesman very seriously.  The book is briefly and economically written, and, especially to those who have any connection with Quorn district or are personally acquainted with Mr. McHugh's or any other of the old Quorn families, will be found to be full of interest.'
