[Shigeo Maruyama is one of the few male jazz vocalists in Japan. His first album, "A Young Father's Song," made his abilities known to the world, and the sound of 20 up-and-coming musicians is massive, explosive, and almost festive. The seven songs, including four for which Maruyama wrote the lyrics and music, range from a samba song that is a joy to an African folk song that spins on a grand scale, and all are worth listening to. An unquestionable masterpiece. Originally released 1981; latest digital remastering in 2019. New commentary included.
